The animation is much shoddier, with a lesser palette of colors, with much fewer interesting background elements and also, with music and sounds that are again, immediately recognizable as cheesy, cheap. Unlike the Dragon's Lair NES version of the game, this one is not a platformer, it's the same mash up of story driven cartoon shenanigans but, unfortunately, the beautiful style of the original is replaced by a more budget look and feel. However, you're more of a button masher, and don't really have much of a say in how the story goes. The action on screen can be very diverse, with your protagonist always looking to dodge, fight, move, etc from a variety of situations. Anyway, to pass this room.Just like the Laserdisc original, Dragon's Lair 3 is the same kind of game, it asks of you to be very careful at the action on screen and at the right moment press a determined number of buttons to keep the story going. Start a new game on Arcade mode, Easy difficulty and set your lives to 5. Also, several scenes appear more than once as mirrored versions where some of the button presses are flipped I'll point these out as we go along, but just be aware that the mirrored version might play for you first before the 'normal' version. The drawbridge always appears first and the Dragon's Lair always appears last. It doesn't matter how many times you die or continue though that only resets your score, which doesn't affect any achievements.Īs mentioned before, the order that the scenes play in is semi-random, and it's even more random on Arcade, so I will just write them in the order that they appeared for me on one playthrough. Once you play through all of the scenes except for the Dragon's Lair, you have to complete every scene you died on before moving on to the Lair itself. The only major difference between Arcade Mode and Home Mode is that on this mode, if you die on any scene other than one of the elevator scenes, the game moves to another scene. Now we are going to play through the game on Arcade Mode. As long as you have the Choked Out achievement, you can quit the game. If you didn't get the Drink Me scene, you can leave it for now (sometimes it seemingly refuses to appear at the start) just remember to die on that scene during your full playthrough. If you're playing on Hard difficulty, an animation plays where Dirk gets choked out from gas and you'll unlock:ĭirk dies via asphyxiation in the bedroom scene Once you're there, when the Up prompt appears, press either Left or Right instead. It won't take long until you get the bedroom scene. If you get a swinging rope scene instead, quit out and start a new game to try again your settings should remain on Home Mode and Hard difficulty. The following room will be one of three scenes, and the one we want is the bedroom with the closing wall. Next is the crumbling room pass this by pressing Right twice when prompted. So once you've unlocked Bumbling Knight, continue past the drawbridge by pressing A when prompted. Now, the order that the scenes play in is semi-random, and the two specific scenes we need for the next two achievements (the bedroom and Drink Me scenes) can appear at the very start of the game with a bit of luck. Though the description doesn't state this, you can only get this achievement in Dragon's Lair and not in either of the two other games.
